MERCEDES MIGUEL

Mercedes de Miguel was born in a small town in Burgos, where since she was a child she has exercised her passion for fashion vocationally. At the age of 15 he moved to Bilbao where he would study design, which he would later complete in Barcelona.

It was in Bilbao in 1989 when, after designing collections for other brands, his concern for fashion and his spirit of improvement led him to create his own brand. Her passion for work makes her worthy of the Golden Pin for “Businesswoman of the Year” just a decade later.

Its first catwalk was in 1995 and from 1999 until 2005 it will parade uninterruptedly, first in Cibeles and later in Gaudí, until its disappearance. Among the shows he remembers most fondly is the one held at the Guggenheim Museum with Paco Rabanne and Carolina Herrera.

Currently, there are 2 brands that design: M de Miguel and Poupée Chic by Mercedes de Miguel.

Her clothes are the result of an imaginary world more suggestive than the visual one. His “bank of ideas” is nourished by art, travel and his own experiences, but it is in his workshop-laboratory located in the heart of the Biscayan iron region, where that inspiration of deep northern roots and brushstrokes of color comes to life, giving shape to Careful interior garments, graphics that tell stories and innovative fabrics of the latest trends.

OF, BY AND FOR WOMEN

Mercedes de Miguel dresses women like the conductor Inma Shara and the soprano Ainhoa Arteta. Also on special occasions she dresses men such as the prestigious chef Juan Mari Arzak or the corps de ballet in the 2012 Los Goya Gala musical directed by Blanca Li, where the actresses Belén Rueda, Victoria Abril and Manuela Velasco wore her designs.

He won numerous awards, such as the Business Cooperation Award from the Basque Government in 2014, and competitions through which he achieved numerous milestones, such as designing the first uniforms for all the staff of the Guggenheim and the Euskadi Youth Orchestra (EGO). He is a representative of the Basque Country and Spain in different initiatives, is present in museums such as the Costume Museum in Madrid, participates in books, media and institutional events among other notable events.

Currently, Mercedes de Miguel faces the new challenges of the industry such as research in the field of Fashion and Technology. Its brands are present in more than 500 points of sale in countries such as: France, Portugal, Belgium, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Arab Countries and Spain, and it has 4 own stores, 2 franchises and several corners in El Corte English.
